University of Nebraska State Museum of Natural History and Mueller Planetarium

Lincoln

Morrill Hall, S. of 14th & Vine Sts - Nebraska's largest natural history museum features the world's premier collection of fossil elephants, Nebraska fossils, American Indian and African exhibits, dinosaurs, wildlife dioramas, Explore Evolution exhibit, hands-on discovery center, ""Darwin, a Life of Discovery,"" planetarium and much more. Mon-Sat, 9:30am-4:30pm; Sun and holidays, 1:30-4:30pm. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Admission: $5 adults, $3 children, $10 families. 402-472-2642

Glismann Collection & Lueninghoener Planetarium

Fremont

900 N. Clarkson St, Midland Lutheran College's Swanson Hall - Outstanding collection of fossils, petrified wood and more than 2,000 mineral samples. Exhibit of butterflies of the western high plains and the middle Rockies. One of the most complete presentations of the genus Lycena and Meltae available. Science education-based programs on a variety of topics can be viewed at the planetarium, as well as featured astronomical events. Behlen Observatory and telescopes are available periodically. Holmes Park, 3701 S. 70th St - Programs include viewing the sky through telescopes, constellation talks and two video programs which change monthly. New Nexstar telescope is GPS guided and has astro-photography and large screen projection capability. Open Sat nights Mar-Oct, sundown-11pm; Nov-Feb, 7-10pm; or by appt.
